Hundreds of people to get free energy for 'at least 10 years' in new scheme

Octopus Energy is set to launch 300 “Zero Bills” homes in partnership with Prosperity Group in Wisbech, promising residents no energy costs for at least ten years.

Due for completion in 2028, the homes will feature heat pumps, solar panels and battery storage, although pricing has yet to be announced. The move comes as the UK energy price cap, currently £1,641, is expected to rise again this summer.

The project forms part of Octopus Energy’s wider push, with over 6,000 Zero Bills homes already approved and a target of 100,000 by 2030 across the UK and international markets. Demand for energy independence is also growing, with sharp increases in heat pump and solar adoption.

Industry leaders say developments like this could help future-proof housing as energy costs remain uncertain and sustainability standards tighten.
